Remember a few years ago how some autistic kid (like 14 years old) was like “Link is mute like me!” and NTs were obsessed with ‘disproving’ their headcanon and using technical definitions of outdated terms and saying that he couldn’t have mutism and that the headcanons were just “SJW bullshit”
and now in the latest Zelda, we get it confirmed that Link does indeed have selective mutism due to trauma and anxiety
because I will never fucking forget
Actually, I’m going to re-blog this again to clarify.
All the people saying he isn’t mute keep sighting examples that he is capable of speech and sometimes does talk. BUT THEY AREN’T UNDERSTANDING that this DOESN’T mean he isn’t mute.
“Selectively mute due to anxiety or trauma” DOES specifically mean that he can talk and sometimes does, but is very often silent, hard to get to communicate and that part of the reason for it is that he feels he needs to be, or is folding in some way to the pressure placed on him by society. ALL of which is supported by pretty much every game and explicitly confirmed by the journal entry we get from Zelda in BOTW.Mute due to neuro-divergence doesn’t mean “can’t physically speak”.
“does indeed have selective mutism due to trauma and anxiety” Is EXACTLY what is supported by the most recent game.
Link is in fact “mute”, in much the same way an autistic child could be, and if you don’t understand how that is so, then it’s because you don’t understand neuro-divergence or mental health as well as you probably should.
